Description:
Les fouilles archeologiques effectuees sur le parvis de l'eglise ont mis en evidence des elements attribuables au Haut Moyen-Age (du VIIeme au Xeme siecle).

Ces vestiges confirm l'existence d'un habitat carolingien (751-987) in situ, masque par le cimetiere entourant un edifice religieux preroman. L'edifice est construit en pierre calcaire locale. Le choeur, le clocher et le bras nord du transept datent de la seconde moitie du XIIeme siecle. Le portail ainsi que le nef dans ses parties hautes ont ete construits vers le milieu du XIIIeme siecle. Le bas-cote nord est voute au XVeme siecle comme la chapelle sud du choeur ; le bas-cote sud a ete reedifie au XVIeme siecle et est caracteristique de l'art de la Renaissance (XVIeme siecle), de meme que les contreforts exterieurs, termines par des frontons triangulaires et surmontes de pots a feu en pierre.

Le chevet de cette eglise est de conception romane (Xeme - XIIeme siecle). Les quatres ouvertures ogivales jumelles du clocher donnent a celui-ci un elancement particulier. L'etat de l'edifice a necessite plusieurs campagnes de restauration au cours du XXeme siecle : par l'architecte Rupricht Robert en 1916 et 1923, par l'architecte Jules Fromige en 1928 et 1937.

L'eglise a ete classee Monument Historique le 18 mars 1931.

Archeological exploration of the square in front of the church uncovered elements attribuable to the High Middle Ages (7th to 10th centuries).

These vestiges confirm the existence of a Carolingian dwelling (751-987) on the site, masked by the cemetary surrounding a pre-Romanesque religious ediface.

The Church is built of local limestone. The chancel, the tower and the northern arm of the transept date from the second half of the 12th century. The portal and the upper parts of the nave were built towards the middle of the 13th century.

The northern side aisle was coverend in vaulting in the 15th century, as was the south chapel of the chancel. The south side aisle was rebuilt during the 16th century and is characteristic of Renaissance (16th century) art, as are the external buttresses, which end in triangular pediments surmounted by flame-vase finials.

The chevet of this church is of Romanesque design (10th-12th century). The four twin lancet openings of the belfry give it a remarkably slender appearance.

The state of the building required several restoration campaignes during the 20th century: by the architect Rupricht Robert in 1916 and 1923, and by the architect Jules Fromige in 1928 and 1937.

The Church was registered as a Historic Monument on 18 March, 1913.
